Susan McLaughlin Obituary

MCLAUGHLIN, Susan Gayle Fuller, "Sue," age 66, formerly of Brookville, PA, passed away Sunday, October 16th, 2022, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL. She was a graduate of DuBois High School (1974). Sue received her B.S. in Psychology (1987) and her M.S. in Counseling (1989) from the State University of New York Plattsburgh. Susan was a National Board-Certified Counselor and spent her professional career empowering women during times of personal struggle. Working in collaboration with the Board of Education Services (BOCES) through the Warren Cooperative Education Services in Plattsburgh, NY, she served as the director of the Women-At-Work program, providing training and support to women entering non-traditional occupations. Sue ended her career as the director of the Community Action Crossroads project in Punxsutawney, PA, where she provided safe environments for the healing and advancement of women and men who suffered domestic violence. Susan also served as a coordinator and volunteer for many charitable organizations throughout the years, most notably, Toys-For-Tots, the Brookville United Fund, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Susan was an infinitely supportive and encouraging wife, mother, and grandmother who loved and cherished her family. She was a woman of integrity, an active voice of inspiration, and her family's foundation. No matter the cause, she always saw the light in the darkness, constantly reinforcing the belief to her loved ones that "This too shall pass." Susan continually helped those in need without reservation, even when enduring similar circumstances. She was a delightfully fun, witty, free-spirited woman who was as selfless and giving as she was stoic and determined in her compassion for the well-being of her family and friends. Susan was a lively woman who always looked forward to the next experience. For most of her life, Sue was an avid gardener. She indeed had a "green thumb." When not tending to her plants, Sue loved to camp and fish with family and friends—relaxing while getting a tan and catching fish on Lakes Erie and Ontario provided her tranquility. Susan also loved traveling with her husband Jim and fur-baby Yorkies to see nature’s wonders. As an avid rockhound, she couldn’t resist collecting earthly souvenirs, which she later would turn into beautiful jewelry. Susan was a woman of many projects, from her jewelry making and landscaping to home renovations and lifestyle; Sue always had new ideas in mind. Even in her decline, she still had plans for what she would do next and where she would go.

Her parents, Lester and Ruth (Ball) Fuller, preceded Susan in death. Surviving relatives are her brothers Bill Fuller of New Bethlehem, PA and Ron Fuller of Royalton, PA; her husband of 37 years, James “Jim” McLaughlin; two daughters, Heather (Cribbs) Smith and husband Keith Smith and Julie (Cribbs) Stancliffe of Brookville, PA; two sons Troy Berkey and wife Ronda (Infantino) Berkey of Tampa, FL, and Austin McLaughlin and wife Nichole (Butters) McLaughlin of Brookville, PA; nine grandchildren Bryant Palmer and Avarea, Braidon, and Alaina Smith, Rylee and Ian Stancliffe, Silas and Aris Berkey, and A.J. McLaughlin; three great-grandchildren Sophiya Palmer and Ellie and Kohen Anderson, as well as numerous friends. Services will take place at the McKinney-d'Argy Funeral Home at 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA. Viewings for Sue will be held on Thursday, 10/27/2022, between 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm, with the funeral occurring on Friday, 10/28/2022 at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home. The family would like to extend our thanks for the care given by St. Joseph's hospital and Advent Hospice during her final days.
