Ronald “Ron” Bowen, 62, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at home surrounded by family. He was born on July 28, 1960, to the late Dallas and Ruth (Young) Bowen. Ron was born and raised in the Tylersburg, PA, area. He graduated from North Clarion High School with the class of 1978. Ron proudly served his country with the United States Marines. Ron married Mary Hetrick on March 3, 1984, in Brookville; Mary survives him. Ron was a hard worker who was most known for his thirty-seven years of working at DeMans Team Sports in Brookville. He was a member of the Brookville Firemen’s Club and an attending member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Brookville. Ron had received two kidney transplants and was a longtime volunteer for CORE (Center for Organ Recovery & Education). Much of Ron’s life was spent fighting kidney and heart issues, which he always did with a smile, embracing life and never giving up. Ron was the shining example of a “family man”, he loved his family above all else and spent most of his time with them. Ron was an exceptional father, following his twin boys to all of their youth and varsity sporting events. His love grew with his sons families, Ron was lovingly known as “Papa” by his grandchildren. When he was younger, Ron was an avid bowler and was a lifelong Pittsburgh sports and city fan. He was a remarkably social man, happy to spend the evening out with Mary or friends, especially if a meal was involved, which had to include dessert. Ron’s love for sweets became a running joke around town and friends would frequently bring him desserts. Mary and Ron spent the majority of their time together, whether it was on short trips to the casino, a quick getaway to Pittsburgh, or sitting at home watching reality tv shows, especially the Food Network. Ron enjoyed taking care of plants, he had a collection of his own indoor plants which all benefited from his green thumb. Ron was a loving man who will be dearly missed by those in his life. In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his twin sons; Allen J. (Kayla) Bowen; Andrew J. (Aubrey) Bowen; four grandchildren; Carson; Cole; Emily; Ella; and five siblings; Joy Guree; Harold Bowen; Clara Cussins; George Bowen; and Beverly Bowen. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in passing by one brother: Walter Bowen. Family and friends will be received on Monday, July 3, 2023, from 4pm to 8pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, also at the funeral home, beginning at 10:00am and officiated by Father William Laska. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rose Twp., Jefferson Co., PA. Military honors will be rendered by the Brookville Area Honor Guard.
