Richard “Dick” Shaffer, 86, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, while a patient at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital in DuBois, PA. Dick was born on September 11, 1936, to the late Paul and Mildred (Gilhousen) Shaffer in Knoxdale, PA. He graduated from Brookville Area High School. After graduation he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He then continued his education at Clarion University where he received his bachelor’s in education. He then received his master’s in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He taught at C.G. Johnson Elementary School in Reynoldsville until retirement. He also often talked about how much he enjoyed working on the farm in his younger years. Dick married the love of his life, Phyllis Kahle on July 22, 1961, in Knoxdale; after 61 years of marriage, Phyllis survives him. Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Reynoldsville and the Fireman’s Club in Brookville, PA. He enjoyed playing music on his accordion or piano. He also enjoyed working in his yard, collecting coins, using his metal detector, and woodworking. Above all else, he loved to be outside and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by six children; Debbie (Jim) Fox; Becky (Bo) Rotoloni; Brian (Sue) Shaffer; Mary (Tom) Richards; Vicki (Scott) Hoffman; Kim Shaffer; his sisters; Lorraine Wiles; Mary Ann Spence; Nancy (Charlie) Deible; Jean (Bob) Conner; Joyce (George) Haines; and Doris McAninch. Dick is also survived by his grandchildren; Brandon Fox; Christopher (Emily) Fox; Matthew Fox; Nicholas Fox; Anthony Rotoloni; Alex Rotoloni; Mitchell Rotoloni; Abby (Hunter) Franklin; Carly Richards; Maddy Hoffman; and Josie Galella; John Galella; Ryan Rosentel; and one great-granddaughter; Rylee Franklin. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in passing by his brothers; Donald Shaffer; Bernard Shaffer; Paul “Ray” Shaffer; and his brothers-in-law, Darwin Wiles and Dean Spence. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851, from 2pm to 5pm. A second viewing will take place on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church, 504 Jackson St, Reynoldsville, PA 15851, from 10am to 11am. A funeral service will take place immediately following the second viewing, beginning at 11am and officiated by Reverend Becky Edwards. Interment will take place at Knoxdale Mt.
