Richard Stover Obituary

Richard Stover, Age 90, long time resident of Hormtown, PA (Reynoldsville), died December 11, 2023.

Richard was predeceased by his wife, Margaret E. (Hetrick) Stover; survived by his son Richard Stover, Jr. (Joyce I. Wexler), grandson David Stoverschlegel (Kevin Barriteau), Sister Nancy Ann (Stover) Rideout, brother James A. Stover, extended family (Hetrick, Dickey, Haugh) and many friends.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Ralph G. Stover and Mae W. (Haloweil) Stover, and siblings, Max Stover (Ellen), James Stover (Sally), Ralph Stover (Adaline), Donald Stover (Janie), Jane Fisher (William), and Robert Rideout (Nancy) and Mary Rita Stover (James).

Richard was born and raised in DuBois and, after graduating High School, served our country, enlisting in the Army serving in 7th Army during the Korean War, as medic, before his Honorable Discharge, returning home.

Richard and Margaret were married in 1957 and made their life time home in Hormtown, surrounded by family and friends.

Richard worked in manufacturing (Foreman, Jeffers Electronics) before taking up the mantel of public service, first as the Code Enforcement officer for Jefferson. As Code Enforcement Officer he travelled extensively during Hurricane Agnes (1972) to the Wilkes Barre area to assist in their recovery.

After several years Richard was appointed the Director of Veterans Affairs for Jefferson County, serving until his retirement.

Throughout his life Richard was a colorful, engaging individual, loving husband, father and grandfather. a friend to many in need, a care giver, quick to assist, an avid sports fan (Go Steelers) and known for his generosity and friendly smile.

Richard was part of the various veteran groups, VFW, American Legion, and served as the Service Officer until retirement. He was a member of the Elks as well.

Family and Friends of Richard are invited to celebrate his life with his viewing on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 5pm to 7pm, at Snyder - d'Argy Funeral Home, 206 E Main St., Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A second viewing will take place on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 10am to 11am. His funeral service will take place immediately following the second viewing, beginning at 11am, also at the Snyder - d'Argy Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Emerickville (Moore) Cemetery, Jefferson Co., PA
