Portia Harriger Obituary

Portia Y. (Clinger) Harriger, 96, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away during the early morning hours of Thursday, February 15, 2024, while a resident of Nelson’s Golden Years in DuBois, PA. Born on August 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Erma (Tozier) Clinger in Reynoldsville. Portia was a lifelong resident of Reynoldsville, and a 1945 graduate of Reynoldsville High School. On January 24, 1947, she married Donald E. However, throughout her life she had been employed at the Silk Mill, Cameron Manufacturing, Stormer’s Market, and as a cafeteria monitor at CG Johnson Elementary School. She was a wonderful seamstress, making the bulk of her girls’ clothing. Throughout her life she was able to master many art skills and enjoyed all of them immensely. She could knit, crochet, and after receiving inspiration from Bob Ross, she took up oil painting. She was active for years with her bridge club and went on to play Shanghi in her later years. She was Christian by faith and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reynoldsville. Portia is survived by one daughter; Denise (Rick) McGarvey; one son in law; Jack Matusky; four grandchildren; Amy Matusky; Jill (Alan) Moore; Kelly (Doug) Surkala; Rob (Kalyn) McGarvey; eleven great grandchildren; Eric Surkala; Dru Javens; Hannah Surkala; Alex Moore; Cole Javens; Jaxson Matusky; Andrew Moore; Alyssa Moore; Decker McGarvey; Blake Javens; and Shaw McGarvey. In addition to her parents and husband, Portia was preceded in passing by one infant brother; one daughter; Barb Matusky; and two grandchildren; Beth Matusky Javens; and Eric McGarvey. Per her wishes, Portia’s services will be done in tandem with her husband Donald’s so they may be laid eternally to rest together. Family and friends will be received for a Celebration of Life at the Reynoldsville American Legion, 305 Broadway Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851, from 11am to 12pm on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
