Margaret Walker Obituary

Margaret Ann (Pendleton) Walker, 86, of Soldier, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  She spent the last few years of her life being cared for in her home by many caring caregivers, who were close family members.

She was born on November 27, 1937, to Robert B. and Zena K. (Yohe) Pendleton in Soldier.  Margaret lived most of her life a few steps away from her childhood home.  She was a graduate of Reynoldsville High School with the Class of 1956.  After graduation, she also attended and graduated with an associate’s degree from the DuBois Business College. She married W. Clair Walker on October 29, 1960, in Soldier; he preceded her in death on June 6, 2020.  Margaret’s most important work was being a wife and mother, and later grandmother and great-grandmother.  In her younger years she was employed by Sylvania, Cameron, and Riverside Market. She also was an owner and operator of a tropical fish shop. Margaret was a member of the Soldier Methodist Church for most of her life and served her God in many capacities at the church over the years.  She was a fine seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes.  She was also known for gifting special quilt top pillows.  She was an excellent cook, known for her chili, and for her pizzas made with her own pizza dough recipe.  She loved her birds and always had the prettiest flower garden. She loved to read and had a massive book collection. Margaret will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Margaret is survived by her children: Bill (Monica) Walker, Lynda (Keith) Brooks both of Soldier; daughter-in-law: Valerie (Scott) Walker-Solnosky of Sykesville; four grandchildren: Melissa Ann Morris of Brookville, Adam (Steph) Walker of Soldier, Rachael Ann (Matt) Ramsey of DuBois, and Bradley (Stephani) Walker of Reynoldsville; and eight great-grandchildren: Lexie Shaffer, Haley Morris, Kiley (Tristan) Bullers, Abby Rooney, Alice Rooney, Payton Ann Hiles, Wesley Walker and Oakley Walker. Margaret is also survived by her three sisters: Alice Marchioni of DuBois, Nancy (Marlin) Walker of Sykesville, and Rhoda (Ben) Walker of Soldier. In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by son: Douglas; brother: Delbert “Bud” Pendleton; an infant brother: Donny Pendleton; and a nephew Mario Marchioni.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm at the Soldier Community Church, 762 Reynoldsville Sykesville Rd., Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A second viewing will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 10am to 11am, also at the church. A funeral service will take place immediately following the second viewing, honoring both her and her husband, Clair, beginning at 11am, and officiated by Pastor Kevin Brooks. Interment will take place at Sykesville Memorial Cemetery, Sykesville, Jefferson Co., PA. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Soldier Community Church or to Penn Highlands Hospice in DuBois, 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
