Lois Vanderpool Obituary

Lois Larue Vanderpool, 97, a lifelong resident of Punxsutawney, PA, passed away from this life to heaven on May 31, 2024, after a short illness. She was born on May 8, 1927, on the family farm to the late Mildred (Pearce) and Carl Bowser. She married Edward H. Vanderpool on April 16, 1945, happily married for 55 years until his passing in November of 2000. She excelled in school and graduated early from Punxsutawney High School in 1943. She was employed at GC Murphys, quickly working her way up to assistant store manager. She worked there even as it became Ames, for over 40 years until she retired. Lois and Ed enjoyed their camping trailer at Deer Meadow and travelled extensively. After Ed’s passing, she continued to travel, seeing Europe and the United Kingdom with her pal Ann Mumper. She was active with the Eastern Star, the Career Women’s Club, and could often be seen working at Blood Mobiles with the Red Cross. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church for over 70 years. Lois is survived by one son: William E. Vanderpool and his wife, Mary of Brookville, PA; two grandsons: Brian Vanderpool and his wife Jill of Abington, PA and Colin Vanderpool of DuBois, PA; granddaughter in law: Dawna Vanderpool of DuBois; and three great-grandchildren: Luke, Riley, and Logan; and one sister: Carole Hoeh and husband Charles of Punxsutawney. In addition to her parents and husband, Lois is preceded in passing by one grandson: Nathan Vanderpool. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 10am to 1pm, at the Fait – d’Argy Funeral Home, 117 N. Jefferson Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767. A funeral service will take place immediately following the viewing beginning at 1pm and officiated by Pastor Tim Spence. Interment will take place is at Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Jefferson Co., PA. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the First English Lutheran Church or to the American Red Cross.
