Laura Belle (Zeigler) Shaffer

Laura Belle (Zeigler) Shaffer, 88, of Brookville, PA, passed away during the morning hours of Saturday, July 8, 2023, while a resident of Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor. She was born on September 16, 1934, to the late Walter and Florence (Lowers) Zeigler in Brookville. She graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1952. Laura married Bernard Paul Shaffer on March 26, 1955, in Brookville; Bernard preceded her in passing on June 10, 2011. She was a hard worker who worked in the dietary department at Jefferson Manor, retiring after over thirty years of service. She was Lutheran by faith and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Brookville. Laura was an animal lover who had a special connection with her beloved companion and fur friend, Zoey. She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates, but she also celebrated every Steelers win. She loved to keep her mind active and would regularly complete word searches and crosswords. She loved the outdoors and took pride in her own lawn and landscaping. Above all else, Laura loved her family and home, she was always “at peace” at home, and could almost always be found in her chair or on the patio. She will be dearly missed by many. Laura is survived by one grandson; Justin Shaffer; one daughter in law; Linda Shaffer; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Laura was preceded in passing by her son; Drew A. Shaffer; one brother; Don L. Zeigler; and one sister; Jo Ann Clayton. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 11, 2023, from 4pm to 8pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 12, 2023, also at the funeral home, from 10am to 11am. A funeral service will take place immediately following the second visitation, beginning at 11:00am and officiated by Rev. Doug Dyson. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Grace Lutheran Church, 160 Franklin Ave., Brookville, PA 15825.
