Keith Briggs Obituary

Keith Darr Briggs, 93, of Brookville, Pennsylvania, died at home on September 25, 2022. He was born on January 20, 1929, in Pittsburgh, the son of Harold and Helen Darr Briggs. A 1947 graduate of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh and a 1951 graduate of Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, he was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity. He served in the United States Naval Air Force from 1951-1955 as an instructor at the Naval Aviation Electronics School in Millington, Tennessee, and later as a flight radio operator in Navy Squadron VR7 of the Military Air Transport Service in the Pacific during the Korean conflict.  After his discharge, he attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and graduated in 1958.

Ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church, he served churches in Uniontown, Pennsylvania; Galion, Ohio; Abadan, Iran; and churches in Brookville (1971 – 1983), Sigel, Marienville, and Coolspring.

On August 18, 1956, he and Carole Ashman were married in Pittsburgh. This year they celebrated their 66th anniversary. They are the parents of three children: Andrew (Claudia) of Harrisburg; John (Karen) of Brookville; and Gretchen (David) Dinger, also of Brookville. They have eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  His younger brother, William “Bill” Briggs, and a grandson, Eric Willis Briggs, preceded him in death.

He served on the Brookville Borough Council for sixteen years, on the boards of the YMCA, Arthurs Library, United Fund, Jefferson Manor, and for ten years as coordinator of the Brookville Area Food Pantry. He served on the alumni board of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and was active in fund-raising for the Seminary and the Jefferson County History Center.

Services will be held privately for the family. Memorials may be sent to the Presbyterian Church of Brookville or the Brookville Area Food Pantry. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.
