George Washington Smith Jr., 78, of Brookville, PA, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, November 20, 2023. George was born on July 26, 1945, to the late George Washington and Margaret (Hughes) Smith in Brookville. George married Lena Pauline Carpenter on January 28, 1967. George had a passion for life that was reflected in his love for fishing and gardening. He found solace by the water, casting a line and enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors. His green thumb was well-known, being awarded “Gardner of the Month.” He took great pride in cultivating a beautiful garden that brought joy to all who visited. Above all else, George loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and was “born to be a Papa”. One of George's greatest joys was spending time with all of his grandchildren. He loved to share laughter and stories. His love for family was evident in every moment spent together. He will be remembered for his kind demeanor and true love for his family. In addition to his wife, Lena Pauline, those left to cherish his memory are three children; William Randall Carpenter; Robyn Lee (Larry) Carpenter; Tammy Lynn (Kyle) Fiddler; three brothers; Harold Smith; Richard (Wanda) Smith; and Leslie James Carpenter; two sisters; Ina Jeanne Parton; and Pamela Carpenter.
