Frederick "Freddie" Michael Kovalyak

Frederick “Freddie” Michael Kovalyak, 75, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, while at his home, surrounded by his wife and children. Freddie was born on September 25, 1947, to the late Frederick Theodore and Kathryn Virginia (Bracken) Kovalyak in DuBois, PA. He graduated from Clarion State College with a Bachelor’s in Education. He continued his education at Westminster College to achieve his Principal Papers. Freddie was in education for 37 years and was principal for 30 years. He was principal in several schools, including but not limited to, Wasson, Juniata, Luthersburg, and Highland. He was also the Federal Program Director for the DuBois Area School District, retiring in 2004. Freddie married the love of his life, Marcheta Grossi on November 23, 1966, at the Saint Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Punxsutawney, PA; Marcheta survives him. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Reynoldsville, a former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #519, Sons of the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #540. Freddie was larger than life and was loved by anyone that met him. Freddie would go above and beyond for anyone and was beloved by his staff and students. Freddie was very strong, making sure he stood up for what was right. He was a coach for the Varsity Track and Field, Elementary Basketball, and Sr. Little League. He was an avid sports fan and always had a joke ready. Above all else, Freddie loved his wife and family, always putting them first. In addition to his wife, Freddie is survived by two sons: Christopher (Tracy) Kovalyak and Brent (Angela) Kovalyak; and four grandchildren; Mia, Alexander, Ryan, and Alessandra. In addition to his parents, Freddie is preceded in passing by his grandmother: Stella Bracken. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 4pm to 8pm at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 607 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851, beginning at 10am and officiated by Father Walk. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hahne Regional Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
