Elsie Whetson Obituary

Elsie Louise Whetson, 93, of Brookville PA, passed away 7:30 am, Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Brookside Senior Living. Born January 18, 1922 in the Village of McDonald, Trumbull County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Zink) Smith. She graduated with an associate degree in business and went on to be Administrative Assistant to the CEO of Sharon Steel in Niles, Ohio. She married the late Lionel J. Whetson on September 12, 1953 in Girard, Ohio. After their marriage, they moved to Pittsburgh where Lionel worked as an engineer for US Steel and during the years they traveled to Rome, Paris, Ireland, Poland, Italy and Australia. Traveling through Brookville for many years their hearts were set on building a home in Eldred Township, Jefferson County, that followed with the opening of the Laurel Shop on Main Street, Brookville. Elsie's talent with art expanded from pencil sketch, to colored chalk and to free hand painting. Many will remember her teaching painting classes while operating the Laurel Shop. She enjoyed the changing of the seasons and sharing her knowledge about flowers, plants and trees along with times to plant, colors and when to trim or replant. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, in Brookville, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. Elsie is the last surviving member of the Smith Family. She leaves behind her friends; Bill & Diane Kiehl Family and Tom Burns & his dog Maggie. Memorials may be made to Grace LutheranChurch, 160 Franklin Avenue, Brookville PA 15825. There will be no viewing/visitation. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery, Youngstown Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of the McKinney-d'Argy Funeral Home of Bookville.
