Edward L. Pifer, age 89, of DuBois, PA, passed away on December 28, 2024, in the comfort of his home. He was born on October 10, 1935, to the late Earl E. and Florence A. (Cramer) Pifer. He was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Class of 1953. On February 3, 1958, he married Naomi Shepler, who survives him.
Ed chose to serve in the United States Air Force before spending 28 years working for Culligan Water Company in the Philadelphia area. He later retired from Burlington Coat Factory in Marlton, NJ. Ed lived a life centered on family, love, and the simple joys that made every day special.
Known for his practicality and dedication, Ed found unique ways to support his son—like becoming an umpire alongside his son Keith who was a teenager without a driver’s license at the time. It wasn’t just about calling balls and strikes; it was a fun, hands-on way for him to be involved while also helping to pay for gas to and from the games. He loved making things work and always found solutions that brought joy to those around him.
Later in life, when physical activities became more difficult, Ed mastered email to stay connected with friends and family. He enjoyed challenging his mind with word find puzzles, listening to audiobooks, and spending time watching his favorite westerns on TV. The Western Channel was a staple in his daily routine and his ultimate form of relaxation.
In addition to his wife, Naomi, Ed is survived by his son, Keith E. Pifer of Reynoldsville, PA; and his two sisters: Martha Jones of Big Run, PA, and Cleda Gaynelle (Loyle) Kerr of Punxsutawney, PA.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert and Jesse Pifer.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Snyder - d'Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main St., Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A funeral service will follow immediately at 4:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Sam Bundy. Interment will take place at Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery in Troutville, PA, on the following day.
