Doris “Dory” Jane (Shaffer) McAninch, 79, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024, while a patient at Penn Highlands DuBois in DuBois, PA. Dory was born on March 28, 1945, to the late Paul and Mildred (Gilhousen) Shaffer in Brookville. She graduated from Brookville Area High School with the Class of 1963. She worked for Sylvania and then for Owens-Illinois; Dory retired from Owens-Illinois after thirty years of service. Dory attended the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church. Dory will be forever remembered for her baking skills, making her pink icing sugar cookies, cinnamon rolls, and “Grandma Dory’s buns” for every family event. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, even though she could not taste or smell, which she told you every time she cooked for you. Dory loved to go to auctions, she would collect and resell items at her yard sales in the summer that she held with her sister, Mary Ann. She also enjoyed her trips to the ocean and told her granddaughter, Kaylee, to sleep with her windows open so she could hear the waves all night. Dory always put her family's needs before her own. She loved the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and her extended family. Dory organized the Shaffer Reunion in Cook Forest every year, making sure there was tons of food and activities for everyone of all ages. Dory will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her. Dory is survived by three sons: Steve (Molly) McAninch of Port Matilda, PA; Tim (Kelly) McAninch of Brookville, PA; and Brad McAninch of Rehoboth Beach, DE; grandchildren: Bruce (Christina) McAninch, Madison McAninch, Kaylee McAninch, and Heath McAninch. Dory is also survived by her sisters: Loraine “Sis” Wiles, Mary Ann Spence, Jean (Bob) Connor, Nancy (Charlie) Deible; and Joyce (George) Haines. In addition to her parents, Dory was preceded in passing by four brothers: Don Shaffer, Bernie Shaffer, Paul “Ray” Shaffer, Richard “Dick” Shaffer; and two brothers-in-law: Darwin “Chick” Wiles and Dean Spence. Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 3pm to 7pm, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.
