Donna Spinazzola Obituary

Donna (Spinos) Spinazzola, 80, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at home with comfort from her loving family after 16 years of battling cancer with unbelievable courage, strength, and faith. She was born on February 24, 1942 in Windber, PA to the late James Spinos and Pauline (Boxen) Hydak. Donna’s father James was killed on the Ramegan Bridge during WWII. Donna married Daniel Spinazzola on November 19, 1966. She graduated from Clarion State College In 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree and continued her education at Duquesne University to receive her Masters Degree. Donna taught second grade at Penn Hills School District and also worked at Premier Medical Associates. Prior to moving to Brookville in 2013, Donna was a member of the St. Regis Catholic Church in Trafford, PA then became a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Brookville. Donna volunteered at both St. Regis and Immaculate Conception Churches. She was a good and faithful servant to the Lord and her efforts will always be remembered. Donna had countless hours volunteering with the Penn Trafford Band, Drama Guild and the Theatre Factory in Trafford. Donna was also an excellent baker and was known for the cookies she baked for family and friends. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son; Dr. James M. (Timna) Spinazzola of Ithaca, NY; a daughter Julie (Eric) Lauer of Brookville, PA; siblings Michael (Paulette) Hydak of Anchorage, AK, and Debra (Wynn) Paterson of Wexford, PA. She is also survived by grandsons Danny and Ethan Lauer who above all were Donna’s pride and joy. Numerous nieces and nephews survive. In addition to her parents, Donna is preceded in passing by her grandparents Marion and Concetta Spinos and Michael and Mary Boxen; and her stepfather Andrew Hydak Jr. Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 10:00am to 11:00am for a memorial visitation at the Immaculate Conception Church, 129 Graham Ave., Brookville, PA 15825. A Funeral Mass will take place immediately following the visitation beginning at 11:00am and officiated by Father William Laska. Final Committal and Interment will take place at St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery Chapel, Windber, PA on Saturday, September 10 at 11:00am and officiated by Father Rod Soha. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, UPMC Hillman Cancer Institute, or to St. Anthony of Padua Church. The family extends special gratitude to Penn Highlands Home Hospice for their compassionate care.
