Dennis (Denny) Mark Powell, 78, of Sigel, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, peacefully while at home with family. Born March 29, 1946, in Brookville, he was a son of the late Calvin M Powell and Dorothy Brinkley Powell of Erie. He was raised in Erie, PA and attended McDowell High School. He then attended Edinboro University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education and served as the President of the TKE (Teke) Fraternity. Denny then earned his Masters in English at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He married Mary Ann Trigilio on June 1, 1968, she survives. He is also survived by his son, D. Mark Powell (Amy Baker) of Brookville and daughter Autumn D. Romanowski (Matthew Romanowski) Salisbury, MD, along with 5 Granddaughters. (Elaina Powell, Kira Powell, Ashley Romanowski, Leah Romanowski and Lauren Romanowski). In 1968, Denny began his teaching career at James S. Wilson High School in Erie. He then moved to his home in Sigel, PA in the fall of 1971 where he found his true love of teaching at North Clarion High School. At North Clarion, he coached boys’ varsity basketball for two seasons, girls’ varsity basketball for five seasons, junior high girls’ basketball, track, and field. One of his proudest accomplishments was starting the Honors Program, in particular the English Honors Program, at North Clarion. Denny enjoyed the fishing trips, watching his granddaughters play basketball, trips to Maryland, and traveling with his wife who he often referred to as the “love of his life.” He was also a diehard Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He became a member of the Shriners following his graduation from college where he spent over 25 years as an active member. Denny is also survived by his brother, Jeff Powell (Melinda). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Cal Powell (Mary Ellen). Friends and Family will be received at McKinney - d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, Pa 15825, from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, June 23, 2024. A service will be held on Monday, June 2024, also at the funeral home and beginning at 11:00am to celebrate Denny’s life.
