David "Dave" Ernest McAninch, 81, of Brookville, PA, passed away on May 15, 2025.
Born on November 16, 1943, in Brookville, PA, Dave grew up and lived most of his life in Belgiumtown. He appreciated being surrounded by family and great neighbors, who were always willing to lend a hand, especially in his later years.
He attended Brookville Area School District and was a member of the Class of 1961. Dave began his working life on the natural gas drilling rigs. Most of his career was spent using cutting tools and welding in the car shop for the Pittsburgh and Shawmut Railroad, later known as Shawmut Line Railroad.
Dave will be remembered for his love of games and friendly competition. He particularly enjoyed playing pinochle and cad with friends and family. Dave had a passion for taking trips to Salamanca to visit the casino and trying his luck with scratch-off tickets. During family and camp picnics, Dave was a dominant bean bag player. He loved hunting deer and turkey and found great satisfaction being in the woods in the fall. Great memories were made at Cherry Run Camp during hunting season and summer picnics. These pastimes brought him joy and were an important part of how he connected with others and enjoyed his leisure time. Dave was very generous to his sons and their families.
Dave is survived by his three sons: Steve (Molly) McAninch of Port Matilda, Tim (Kelly) McAninch of Brookville, and Brad McAninch of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; four grandchildren: Bruce (Christina) McAninch of Hershey, PA, Madison and Kaylee McAninch of Brookville, PA, and Heath McAninch of Port Matilda, PA; and two brothers: Richard "Dick" McAninch and John McAninch, both of Brookville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence "Bunny" McAninch and Hilda (Dinger) McAninch.
Dave’s family would like to thank the nurses and aides from Penn Highlands Hospice for their wonderful work over these past few months, especially Cindy, Kati, Lisa, Tamica, Kaytlyn, Jodie, and Angie!
Family and friends will be received at the McKinney-d'Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025. A funeral service will immediately follow the viewing, also at the funeral home, beginning at 3pm and officiated by Pastor Jimmy Swogger.
