Dale Clontz Obituary

Dale Leroy Clontz, 87, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Dale was born in Reynoldsville in1938 to Dallis and Elsie (Douthit) Clontz. He graduated from Reynoldsville High School and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963.He started as a grocery clerk at the original Riverside in town and worked his way up to a grocery buyer at the main office in Dubois. He later transitioned to grocery buyer at Elk Food Warehouse in Punxsutawney. In 1988 he decided to go into business for himself and founded Clontz Tire Service that his children helped him run. Many will know him from his side hustle as D & D Hardwoods that produced beautiful pieces of furniture and custom moldings. Dale was a member of the Reynoldsville First Methodist Church. A past PER of the Elks #540. He was an avid reader, enjoyed shooting, and a member of the NRA.  He and his wife enjoyed having lunch with their Foundry friends. Dale was a kindhearted man, with a quick joke. He took great joy in watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren excel in their personal endeavors, from an educational or occupational advancement to a good football game; he was there to cheer you on. His weekly meeting with his friends in the back room of his garage spanned sixty years. Many people have come and gone in that time frame and it is with great sadness that last hand has been delt. Dale is survived by his wife of sixty years Josephine (Foley) Clontz. His daughter Susan Burkett, his son David Clontz both of Reynoldsville. Four grandchildren, Nicole (Rodney) Peterson, Sean (Casey) Burkett, Alex (Jenna) Burkett, and Rachel (Ryan) Sprague. Great grandchildren Carrie Jo, Khole, Cameron, Carson, Connor, Josie, Owen, and Aiden. Several extended family members, nieces, nephews, sister in laws, and brother in laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, George, Dora, Dallas “Bud”. He was the surviving member of his immediate family. Family and friends will be received on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 1pm – 2pm, at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main St., Reynoldsville, PA 15851.
