Bette Coul Curran Obituary

Bette Belle (Alverson) Coul Curran, 94, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022, while a resident of Laurelbrooke Landing. She was born on July 12, 1927, to the late Herbert Lee and Juliet (Dodge) Alverson in Bloomington, IL. Bette graduated from Bloomington High School and went on to attend Maryville College in TN and graduated from Illinois State University. Bette served as the Choir and Bell Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford, IL, for many years. Her enjoyment of sharing music went beyond this to include a position she held as a public school music teacher, as well as privately teaching piano lessons. Bette married Sherwood L. Coul on June 17, 1951, in Bloomington, IL. Sherwood preceded her in death. Bette married Henry Curran on July 31, 1999 in Rockford and Henry also preceded Bette in death. Growing up, Bette was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, IL, but attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church throughout her adulthood. Bette was also a member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers. Bette loved music and much of her life and activities involved music, especially classical and religious music. She faithfully attended and taught many Bible studies throughout the years. Bette also enjoyed gathering with her many female friends in the church. Bette traveled the world with her husband and by attending the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers’ conferences. In her free time, Bette could be found playing solitaire with the small deck of cards she always carried in her purse or using her iPad. Bette is survived by one son; Rev. David S. (Jane Elliott-Coul) Coul of Hermitage, PA; one daughter; Barbara J. (Tom) Stansbury of Coatsville, PA; one stepdaughter; Nancy (Bob Carlson) Hoffmann of Rockford, IL; six grandchildren; Aaron (Jen) Carlsson, Jennifer Stansbury, Christopher Coul, Stacey (fiancé, Kevin Knight) Coul-Nye, Lindsey (Drew) Myers, David A. Coul; two step grandchildren; Kristen (Peter) Asplin, Nathan (Michelle) Hoffmann; and fourteen great grandchildren; Hunter Loveridge, Kylee Nye, Irelyn Loveridge, Claudia Carlsson, Owen Carlsson, Elliott Myers, Johanna Asplin, Linnea Asplin, Luke Hoffmann, Faith Hoffmann, and Emma Hoffmann. In addition to her parents and husbands, Bette was preceded in death by one brother; Harry Alverson, two sisters; Martha Erbes, Helen Salch; one sister-in-law; Mary Alverson and one brother-in-law; Chuck Salch. Services will be held at a later date in Rockford, IL. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825. Final interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Rockford, IL. Memorial contributions may be made in Bette’s name to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N.
