Anita Ruth (Badgett) McCracken, 70, of Abilene, TX, passed away in the early evening hours of Friday, February 17, 2023 in her home in Abilene. She was born on April 29, 1952 to the late Kenneth Rufus Badgett and the late Lula Mae (Starnes) Badgett in Alexandria, LA. After graduating from Brookville Area High School in 1970, Anita continued her education at Ohio Valley College where she received an associate's degree in journalism, and at Clarion State University where she earned a master's degree in education. Anita worked for a short time as a feature writer for the Jeffersonian-Democrat, and for two years as a substitute teacher for the Brookville Area Schools. She accepted a position at Clarion-Limestone Schools, teaching third grade until her retirement in 2013. In retirement, Anita combined her passion for education with her hobby of sewing to support the non-profit Community Project: Ethiopia in building a school and sewing uniforms for 1000 children. Anita is survived by her husband, David McCracken; three children, Thaddeus (Colleen) McCracken, Victor (Tara) McCracken, and Stephanie McCracken; and five grand children, Theophilus McCracken, Naomi McCracken, Gabriel McCracken, David McCracken, and Marie-Louise McCracken. Anita is also survived by two sisters, Margi (Badgett) Rhodes of Tucson, AZ and Beth (Badgett) Voss of Fort Worth, TX , as well as several nieces and nephews. The family extends their appreciation to the staff, nurses, and doctors of Hendrick Hospice for their kind and loving care for Anita in her final months. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM on May 6th, at the Roseville Church of Christ, 3359 US-322, Brookville, PA 15825, officiated by Minister John Kerr. Interment is at the Beechwoods Cemetery.
